Many seeking real estate in Spain do so precisely because they wish to reside near one of the first rate golf courses in this region. Upon discovering their dream Costa del Sol villa they are not disappointed by a climate that allows year round enjoyment of local fairwais.

Since the early 1960's when Jose Banús first envisioned "Nueva Andalucia" with it's magnificent marina, but also with it's various golf courses and luxury villas dotted around them, the key to a successful development in Marbella has been to have a golf course at it's heart.

Older and even more successful than Nueva Andalucía in terms of planned golf development is Guadalmina. With it's tree-lined network of villa studded streets woven between the fairways and greens of its three courses, Guadalmina has a village community appeal. The charming local Chapel is in great demand for high society weddings, and the "corner-shop" concept is still alive and well in the heart of Guadalmina. The original apartment buildings are famed for their spaciousness and views, making them attractive to permanent residents and always in demand.

Los Monteros Rio Real is also one of Marbella's oldest courses, with attractive villa development around the fairways and down to the sea. Luxury development with apartments of the highest quality, both on the north part of the course and next to the sea, is finally fulfilling the potential of the Rio Real area. The newest courses: Los Flamingoes, Marbella Club Golf Resort and Monte Mayor are all in the so called "new golden mile" between San Pedro Alcántara and Estepona. The bloom of 5-star hotels developed in the past three years along this stretch of coast has prompted it's new status as a blue chip investment area. The golf developers have been quick to follow.

The success of the very exclusive La Zagaleta development (with few plots left to sell), convinced the owners of the Marbella Club of the demand for exclusivity and the high price purchasers are prepared to pay for it. A major investment in infrastructure and the development of a golf course in a spectacular mountainous environment off the Benahavis road, offers purchasers wonderful plots on the Marbella Club Golf Resort. If you can afford it, this is the place to build your dream villa.

For the adventurous purchaser, the Monte Mayor Golf and Country Club development is high up in the hills behind La Cancelada village and offers the slightly less expensive alternative for your mountain-golf home.

Los Flamingos Golf Course is just behind the beach development of Costalita offering easy access to the beach, great views of the golf course and the lake it surrounds, as well as a view of the sea from your apartment or villa. In terms of recent investment performance, the prize has to go to La Cala and Mijas. This is not a new golf area. The new ingredient is perhaps the luck o' the Irish. Since the residents of that green, golfing isle discovered La Cala and Mijas a few years ago the area has been transformed into something which might be considered to be Dublin-on-Sea. For a nation with 365 days of rain each year, a passion for golf and an affinity for all the things which Spaniards hold dear, the attraction was always inevitable, and seems to be continuous.
